A Man of Wealth and Bad Taste

Meet Cravan Morningstar - the Son of the Devil.  A man with a flair for the flamboyant, the guts for glam, the anthropology for anarchy!  Does that even make sense?  Who cares!  Dadaism on two legs and new partner in crime for Mr. Soren.  This should be interesting.

Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's Soren

Introducing Soren as we know him now, the main character of D&DD.  He is, as Josh calls him, the undead vengeance.  What would you do if you had your purpose taken from you?  Your savior?  Your life?  If you were Soren, you might make a deal with the Devil to recapture your heart.  But as we all know, you don't participate in faustian negotiations without facing consequences.

Greetings, Hellbound

Hello all, welcome to our blog and its inaugural posting.  Here, you will discover a vast array of postings, artwork, and incoherent ramblings from the lunatics behind the Devil and the Dearly Departed.  But what is the Devil and the Dearly Departed?

Conceived by yours truly in 2007, this comic book began as any piece of art does; an idea.  Initially a teenage pipe dream from a bright-eyed highschooler who thought a little too highly of himself, this project has become a reality.  Through my college years, beyond the awkward years, I participated in an immense amount of writing, editing, and rewriting that resulted in the comic book you will soon be enjoying.  Hyper-pop-realist Joshua Chinsky stepped on board upon completion of the script, a dream collaborator on the piece.

So what is the story?  In writing proposals for this piece, I was forced to face the issue of condensing one-hundred-and-sixty-something pages of complex layering dealing with the great philosophical issues (love, existential woe, life, death, religion, violence, etc.) into one page.  How could I possibly condense it into one page, or for some publishers, into one paragraph?  Well, when I think about the book, I have to go back to its beginnings; to its core.  Perhaps, beyond all of the violence, sex, and philosophy, the real story is about a boy and a girl.  On this train of thought, I came to the conclusive question.  What happens after Romeo & Juliet die?  Without revealing too much, this is a story about one man's search for his lost love.  Of course, it wouldn't be fun without all of the bloody vengeance that comes with it.

So, fellow Hellbound, keep your eyes to the underworld, for Soren will soon be reawakening.  And trust us, you won't want to get in his way.  Farewell, for now
